The BIT system which will be develop can be use by the cinema industry. Golden Screen Cinemas Sdn. Bhd. (GSC) have been chosen as the main company that will feature the system because they currently have an existing system which can be much improved.
Golden Screen Cinemas Sdn. Bhd. (GSC) is the leading film exhibitor in Malaysia. It is the merged entity of the two giants of the Malaysian film industry, Golden Communications (M) Sdn Bhd (GCM) and Cathay Cinemas Sdn Bhd (CCSB).
The merger has resulted in the largest single entity in the Malaysian cinema entertainment business. This background brings with it more than 90 years of combined involvement in the cinema business which its experience will be useful for the research. GSC is a subsidiary of PPB Leisure Sdn Berhad (a member of the PPB Group and Kuok Group). PPB Group is a Malaysian based group listed on the stock exchange of Malaysia. It is a diversified group with interests in food industries, plantations, environmental, engineering, utilities and waste management, property and entertainment. GSC is currently in its operating of its 20th year in the country.
GSC’s core business is film exhibition and with the opening of the 8-screen Multiplex in Queensbay Mall, Penang on January 25, 2007, GSC operates the largest circuit with a total of 113 screens in 18 locations, all of which are located in prime sites in major cities and towns throughout the country. They include Klang Valley, Johor Bahru, Ipoh, Sungei Petani, Seremban, Malacca, Kuantan and Kota Kinabalu. Their flagship outlet in Mid Valley Megamall is currently the largest multiplex in Asia, with a total of 18 screens. GSC Mid Valley offers cinema-goers the ultimate movie going experience with a premier Gold Class auditorium, International Screens and an Audio Visual convention auditorium.
GSC will be expanding to another 3 more new sites by the first quarter of 2008, which is at Mid Valley, The Gardens, KL Pavilion and also at Sunway Carnival, Penang.
Besides their basic concessionaires which offer their popular caramel popcorns, “Glitters”, GSC’s merchandising store has expanded its role into food & beverage in GSC Gurney Plaza and GSC 1 Utama (New Wing). Movie buffs can purchase movie related merchandise like T-shirts, caps, toys and original movie DVDs, VCDs, books and music soundtracks in Glitters.
In addition, GSC also serves as film distributor, which contains independent English and foreign language films. GSC distributes films from independent companies such as Weinstein, Mandate, IS Film, Wild Bunch, Focus Features, IEG, New Line Cinemas, Fortissimo, etc. As for Chinese films, GSC is the largest distributor and distributes films from the major studios in Hong Kong, namely Media Asia, EMP, Mandarin, Applause and Universe.
